QR codes on invoices: payment links and GST details
By Jessopradesh John Rose, Founder, QR Studio · Updated November 2026
A QR code on an invoice lets a client pay in a few taps. For Indian invoices it is usually a UPI code. This guide covers what to put on it, what to print beside it, and how to avoid mistakes.
What the code should hold
For a payment code, use your UPI ID and, if you want, the invoice amount and the invoice number as the note. A fixed amount saves the client typing, and the note helps you match the payment to the invoice.
What to print next to it
Print your UPI ID and your name as text beside the code, so the client can check it before paying. Add your bank details too, for clients who pay by transfer.
GST and tax fields
The invoice maker has fields for a tax number, tax rate and tax lines, in any currency. It makes a layout, and it is your responsibility to follow the rules that apply to you. If you are registered for GST, check the required fields with your accountant.
Check before you send
Scan the code from the PDF with a phone and see that your name and the amount appear. Then send the invoice.
