Is there a free dynamic QR code?

Mostly no, not for long. A dynamic QR code points to a short address that a server forwards to your real page, and keeping that server running costs money. Here is what free can mean, what to check before you print, and how to avoid paying when you do not need to.
Why a dynamic QR code is not like a static one
A static QR code holds your address or text inside the pattern itself. Once you print it, nothing else is needed, so it can be free and last forever.
A dynamic code holds a short address that belongs to the service. When someone scans it, the service looks up where to send them. That is what lets you change the destination after printing and count scans. It also means the code only works while the service keeps the short address alive.
What free usually means
Services that offer a free dynamic code usually limit it. Check these four things before you print anything:
- Does the free code expire, or only the free plan's extra features?
- What happens to the printed code if you stop paying or the trial ends: does it stop working, or show an advert?
- How many scans or codes are allowed?
- Can you take the destination with you if you leave?
What it costs here
Static QR codes on QR Studio are free, unlimited and need no account, and they never expire. Dynamic codes are a paid plan, starting at ₹15 a month for one code, ₹49 for 3 codes and ₹99 for 15 codes. You pay once for the period you choose, and nothing renews by itself. When a plan ends, the dynamic code stops, and we say so before you buy.
There is no free dynamic code here, because we would rather be clear about that than let a printed code stop working without warning.
When a static code is enough
If the address will not change, use a static code. It is free, it never expires, and there is nothing to renew. For a Wi-Fi password, a contact card, a fixed web page or a UPI payment code, static is the right choice.
If you only want to know how many people scanned it, you do not need a dynamic code either: add tracking tags to the address and read the counts in your website analytics. The guide on tracking scans for free shows the exact setup.
When you do need a dynamic code
Pay for dynamic only when at least one of these is true:
- You will print the code on something you cannot reprint (packaging, signage, a vehicle) and the destination may change.
- You need to see scans by device, place or time without tagging your own website.
- You want to send people to different pages by time or device.
