A Maps link opens the rich place page with reviews and a Directions button, which is what most people want. A plain location QR code drops a raw pin by coordinates and works offline but has no place details. Use the Maps link for a business, the geo code for a spot with no address.
Will it open the Google Maps app or the browser?
The app if it's installed — on both iPhone and Android — otherwise a map in the browser. Either way the pin and Directions button are there.
Can I make a QR code for driving directions, not just a place?
Yes. Set up the route in Google Maps first, then share that link. Scanning opens the directions with your start and end points already filled in.
My Maps link is very long — is that a problem?
A long link makes a denser code that needs a larger print size. Use the short maps.app.goo.gl link from the Share button rather than copying the full URL from the address bar.
Does it work with Apple Maps?
